Established in October 2010 under proclamation No. 86/1994, Berhan Insurance S.C. commenced operations with a paid-up capital of Birr 9.7 million, initiated by Berhan Bank S.C. The company’s founding shareholders, numbering four hundred fifty-five, comprised influential investors, leading to its rapid expansion across Ethiopia. With thirty branches and two contact offices, including twenty in Addis Ababa and twelve in prominent towns such as Hawassa and Mekelle, Berhan Insurance has established a strong presence nationwide since its inception in June 2011.
Driven by successful penetration and promising profitability, Berhan Insurance has experienced a significant increase in shareholders, now exceeding 1,600 individuals. Fulfilling the National Bank of Ethiopia’s requirements for both general and life insurance providers, the company’s paid-up capital has surged to Birr 200 million, underscoring its status as a key player in the insurance sector. Berhan Insurance remains committed to serving the diverse insurance needs of Ethiopians while maintaining financial stability and sustainable growth.
